A NEW deputy police commander has been appointed to cover Watford, Dacorum and Three Rivers.
Superintendent Al Thomas will lead policing on significant events such as Watford football matches, late night public order and tackling anti-social behaviour.
He said: "I am determined to build on the success already achieved in combatting crime in the western area. During the past year the number of arrests has increased, as has the number of detections.
"One of my key tasks will be to build on the excellent work, while supporting my officers and staff to further improve our service."
Superintendent Thomas will also be addressing issues surrounding the extension of alcohol licensing hours and the development of more locally-based police teams working with council staff and other partners in the local community.
He said: "I am committed to the continued development of locally based teams as part of our intelligence-led and high-visibility policing.
"I look forward to working with communities to deliver the best possible policing service."
Superintendent Thomas will be meeting various local groups over the coming weeks to familiarise himself with local and partnership issues.
