Reader Stanley Puddifoot encloses the indenture for Allenso Ltd, the firm recently featured in these columns "This Indenture witnesseth, That Stanley William Puddifoot of 191 Chester Road, Watford in the County of Hertfordshire an Infant of the age of 14 10/12 years or thereabouts of his own free will and by and with the consent of his father who testifies his consent by executing these presents, doth put himself Apprentice to Allensor Ltd, of King Georges Avenue, Watford, Hertfordshire to learn him Art of a Carpenter and Joiner and with him (after the manner of an Apprentice) to serve from the first day of January 1937 unto the full end and term of five years from thence next following to be fully complete and ended.

"During which Term the said Apprentice his said masters faithfully shall serve his secrets keep his lawful commands everywhere gladly do he shall do no damage to his said masters nor see it to be done of others, but that he shall forthwith give warning to his said masters of the same.

"He shall not waste the goods of his said masters nor lend them unlawfully to anyone.

"But in all things as a faithful Apprentice he shall behave himself towards his said masters and all his during the said term.

"And the said Allensor Ltd, in consideration of such service and of the premium of sum of £143.8.8 payable to them in weekly installments as hereunder specified hereby covenants with the said Stanley William Puddifoot that they will properly instruct and teach or cause to be instructed and taught the said Apprentice in the Art of Carpentry and Joinery, which they useth by the best means that they can.

"The said apprentice to find all tools necessary for his own use and that they shall pay to the said apprentice during the first year 14 shillings and threepence per week, the second year 17 shillings and ten pence per week, the third year 23 shillings and ten pence per week, the fourth year 35 shillings and ninepence per week and the fifth year 53 shillings and sixpence per week, except if absent during sickness or without the consent of his said masters when no wages shall be paid.

"One week's holiday each year (with wages) shall be allowed.

"The following weekly installments of premium will be deducted from the aforementioned weekly payments.

"First year, one shilling and nine pence per week, the second year two shillings and tenpence per week, the third year six shillings and fourpence per week, the fourth year 15 shillings and ninepence per week and the fifth year 28 shillings and sixpence per week.

"And for the true performance of all and every the said Covenants and Agreements either of the said Parties bindeth himself unto the other by these presents in witness whereof the parties above named to these Indentures interchargably have put their Hands and Seals the fifth day of January One thousand nine hundred and 37."
