RESIDENTS opposing plans to build on an amenity green in South Oxhey have organised a petition to present to Three Rivers District Council.
A total of 136 residents living near the open space between Blackford Road and Heysham Drive in South Oxhey have already signed the petition objecting to the proposals to develop on the land.
The petition will be presented to Three Rivers' executive committee on Monday, March 7, when they discuss whether to approve a "change of use" for the land.
Three Rivers' development control committee approved planning permission subject to change of use being granted last month.
Local residents and councillors will be attending the meeting to oppose the change of use application being granted.
South Oxhey councillor Kerron Cross said: "The Labour councillors are continuing to fight hard on behalf of local residents on this important issue.
"This amenity green and all amenity greens on the estate should be preserved for local families to enjoy. It is outrageous that the Lib Dems are looking to develop this site for private housing.
"We are calling on the Lib Dems in Three Rivers to listen to local people and back down on these proposals.
"Local residents don't want this and the local elected councillors are united with residents in opposing this so why can't the Lib Dems do something for South Oxhey for a change, swallow their pride and admit the plans should be withdrawn?".
The meeting will be held on Monday, March 7, at 7.30pm in Three Rivers House, Rickmansworth.
