RESIDENTS are being encouraged to join a new group which will help manage a nature reserve in West Watford.
Watford Borough Council and Groundwork Hertfordshire will host a joint meeting at Laurance Haines School, Vicarage Road, on Wednesday, February 23, to discuss the new group, The Friends of Lairage Land.
The Lairage Land is a Local Nature Reserve in Jellicoe Road, West Watford, and supports a wide range of wildlife.
It is hoped the Lairage Land LNR will play a role in caring for the site.
The council and Groundwork Hertfordshire will provide the group with the support, tools and knowledge they will need to help them improve and maintain this nature reserve.
The group will not only be improving the local environment, they will also provide members of the community with a chance to learn new skills and make new friends.
There are a number of activities already planned, including the building of a new boardwalk around the area; pond clearance; habitat surveys and a clear-up day to kick-start the project.
Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: "The Lairage Land is a wonderful green open space, rich in wildlife. It's a great place to visit, whether you want to watch wildlife or simply want peace and quiet in a countryside environment.
"However, it needs the support of local residents to help look after it now and to protect it for future generations."
