A MOTORING enthusiast from Kings Langley has qualified for the final of a national classic car competition with his 46-year-old Volkswagen.
John Figg, 63, of Hill Top Road, Kings Langley, has reached the final of the Autoglym Classic Car of the Year competition, which will take place during the Classic Cars Live Show, at Alexandra Palace, London, in March.
In a readers' poll on the Classic Car magazine website, Mr Figg's 1959 Karmann Ghia was voted into the final, along with four other cars. A panel of experts will pick the winner who will get a trophy and their car featured in the magazine.
Mr Figg, a retired computer operations manager, bought the car in America after discovering there were only three pre-1960 Karmann Ghia convertibles in the UK. He had to repair and respray it and convert it to right-hand drive.
He said: "It is an interesting and attractive car and very nice to drive. I'm looking forward to it being displayed at the Classic Car Show. It has won a few trophies before so I thought I'd enter it but it is a surprise to get through to the final."
