THE first in a series of fundraising events to help save historic Aldenham Church will be held on Saturday, February 19.
A coffee morning will be held at the Church Lane building at 10.30am as part of a schedule of events organised for 2005 to help raise £500,000.
The cash is needed to help carry out restoration work on the church, which is in desperate need of repair. The roof and organ are in particular need of work.
Last year renovation work was carried out on the tower, which can be seen for miles, but this plunged the church into deeper financial trouble.
Press officer Lucy Smith is keen to get the local community involved in a fundraising effort.
She said: "The church's serene and stunning interior is known to many, from local children performing their Christmas plays to a loyal and faithful congregation who have worshipped there for many a year.
"Money is desperately needed to keep this magnificent place open. We need people support this ancient and beautiful building. It has made it into the 21st Century, let's help it into the 22nd Century."
