A COMMEMORATIVE tree which has stood in Kings Langley for decades is to be uprooted.
The beech tree beside Love Lane, which is thought to have been planted to celebrate the coronation of King George V, was cut back by Dacorum Borough Council at the end of October because it was rotting.
All its branches were felled and it now stands as an eight-foot-high stump.
Last Friday, Dacorum Borough Council's tree department and local councillors had to decide if it should be completely removed or left alone to see if it will sprout new branches.
Due the extent of the root, they agreed the tree should be removed.
Dacorum Borough Councillor Alan Anderson said: "The tree is rotten and as there are lots of new trees in the surrounding area it is not going to be replaced."
The tree will be taken away in April or May this year.
