A POLICE officer who had a major role in working to reduce alcohol fuelled crime in Hertsmere has retired.
PC Alan Davis retired last week, after serving 30 years in the police.
He held a number of police roles including a coroners' officer and a home beat officer, during his 26-and-a-half years at Herts Constabulary. Hhe also served three and a half years with Greater Manchester Police.
His most recent job was as the central area's licensing officer and he played a pivotal role in the Pubwatch scheme, which came into effect six years ago. The role involves close liaison with licensees to reduce the amount of alcohol related crime in Bushey, Radlett and Aldenham.
PC Davis said: "Six years ago, the amount of alcohol related crime was extremely high. Since then there have been some significant changes. Hertsmere has seen a 40 per cent decrease in alcohol related incidents. This proves that Pubwatch is a pro-active scheme making a difference."
PC Davis' outstanding contributions were recognised when he was nominated for a Home Office Lifetime Achievement Award. Although he did not win the top award, he attended the presentation, and said: "It was an absolute pleasure representing Hertfordshire. Gaining recognition for the work I have done and the results I have achieved has made my career worth while."
