HERTFORDSHIRE'S Chief Fire Officer, Steve Seaber has been honoured with an OBE for services to fire and rescue.

Mr Seaber joined Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service as assistant chief fire officer in 1991, became deputy chief fire officer in 1993 and has been the county's chief fire officer for the past four years.

He said: "On a personal note I feel both honoured and delighted but also see this as recognition for the support and commitment of all members of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service."

Mr Seaber became a firefighter in 1970, serving with the Cambridgeshire, West Yorkshire and Warwickshire services before moving to Hertfordshire. He will retire in March 2005, after 34 years with the service.
