A music producer from Watford has a managed to notch up a second top-ten hit.
Shahid Khan, 25, aka Naughty Boy, has arranged and produced “Never Be Your Woman”, featuring grime-garage rapper Wiley and the soulful, husky vocals of singer Emeli Sandé.
The track is a remix of White Town’s “Your Woman” and a sped up version of Bing Cosby’s “My Woman”.
Positioned at number eight in this week’s official music chart, Shahid’s song has beaten his collaboration with rapper Chipmunk, which debuted at 11 in August.
Mr Khan, of Charlock Way, said: “I’m so pleased with where the track’s come this week – it’s fantastic. I only hope now that it climbs up, but if it doesn’t it’s still a great achievement.
“Since I recorded with Chipmunk last year, things have been mental – I’ve got an album coming out and have collaborated with some really great artists including Lily Allen, JLS and Alesha Dixon.
“I’ll be flying to America soon to record with Jennifer Hudson, which I really can’t wait for, and I’ve got another track ‘Daddy’ coming out soon, which I’m determined will reach number one.”
Mr Khan, who left Guildhall University after one semester of studying business and marketing, worked for Domino’s Pizza and Watford General Hospital before managing to score a lucrative three-year writing contract with Sony ATV and album record deal with Virgin.
But it was a grant awarded by the Prince’s Trust in 2005 that originally helped him buy his music equipment, which was further boosted when he won £44,000 on Channel 4 programme Deal or No Deal later the same year.
Mr Khan, who plays piano, drums and is learning guitar, said: “The Prince's Trust has a scheme where they want to help people who they feel can set up their own business and they gave me £5,000.
“I originally recorded tracks in a shed in my parent’s garden [in Charlock Way], but now I’m recording at Ealing Studios.
“I’d encourage everyone to have a little faith in themselves. I took a massive risk and it’s paid off.
“I’m just a local Watford boy who’s done well – anyone can do it, you just need a bit of self-belief.”
