The Swing Youth have come a long way in very short space of time.

Formed from the prime cuts of the sadly departed Fullertons and Langley Road, the firebrand four-piece have captured the hearts of fans old and new, bringing the best of both acts to the fore in this exciting new project.

As I said after our interview in the summer the result is fantastic; an edgy, Hammond driven pop/punk infusion able to brighten up even the darkest of days.

It is, then, with considerable pleasure that I reveal news of their debut single, a belting double AA side featuring Myself to Blame and Blade of Grass – tracks worthy of equal praise.

With an accompanying video (Myslef to Blame) the release is evidence of the remarkable progress made thus far. – a fact not lost on highly likeable drummer Loius Love.

“I think we’ve surprised ourselves as much as anybody else,” he said. “Everything has come together so well for us.

“We’ve not actually played that many live shows but the response we’ve had has been amazing. But nit playing many gigs has given us a chance to work on our first release and really make sure we’re happy with it.

“We wanted to make sure it sounded right and chose the tracks carefully so they demonstrate the full range of what we can do.”

So are Swing Youth already surpassing the achievements of the other two acts?

“We’re getting there,” adds an unusually coy Louis.

Now, back to the single, which will be launched, along with a live gig at the Royal British Legion, Rickmansworth, on October 17. Why the there, I here you ask? Because the lads have agreed to donate 50 per cent of their single sales to the Legion after the death of a former school friend killed in Afghanistan.

“When we heard the news of Captain Tom Sawyer’s death, it really brought it all home and made the on-going troubles in Afghanistan far more real,” they said. “The Royal British Legion does some amazing work to support families of servicemen and so we wanted to give something back.

“We have since played some rock n roll covers shows regularly at the Royal British Legion, it’s always busy for us and we are made to feel really welcome within that community.”

The single will be available as a limited edition CD, downloadable through most digital outlets and streamable through Spotify. The official video for Myself to Blame is now available to listen to and watch on the Swing Youth YouTube channel.
