Some absolutely fantastic news this week with the announcement that one of my favourite live music nights is to return at the end of the month.
If you’ve never experienced live music at Cassiobury Park’s Café Cha Cha Cha then you’ve missed out on some truly special evenings.
Formerly known as Barney’s Acoustic night (which enjoyed a cracking series of gigs last year) The Wireless will make its much anticipated return on tonight – bringing you some of the most touching, talented acts from Hertfordshire and beyond.
With former organiser and Indiana front-man Barney away on his travels, responsibility for the pulling in the crowds, booking the acts etc has fallen to, amongst others, Pete Belfield – the husband of the superb Sarah Hamlin.
“There is something really special about this venue,” he explained. “It really lends itself to the kind of performers who have played there; to that softer acoustic sound.
“It’s so nice to find an atmosphere that’s not quite pin-drop quiet but also isn’t really noisy. It makes for some great performances.”
And believe you me, he’s not kidding. Last year’s run of gigs saw three of the finest performances I’ve seen for a long time; beautifully staged, almost perfect gigs that meant all the more because the venue – a venue blessed with excellent acoustics and, under candle light, a truly unique atmosphere.
Those acts in case you were wondering: London-based folk singer Sam Beer and locally based Sarah Hamlin and Roberto Cappalina.
Sadly Sam won’t be back (management issues) but the other two will be joined every other Friday night by a plethora of other local favourites, including the Staves, Kyla La Grange, Euan Hinshelwood, the Pocket Gods, and Matt Tinsley.
