INSPIRED by the Observer Newspapers’ Charity Golf Day, organisers of a lunchtime barbecue at Croxley Green Business Park decided to use the event to support our chosen charity, Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice.
Fundraising member of the hospice staff, Janice O’Neill, was so overcome by the kindness of this unexpected gesture, she took a break from giving a speech and opening a charity shop in Hemel Hempstead, and showed her gratitude by taking her turn serving sizzling sausages with a big smile.
The idea was cooked up by the business park’s marketing & customer services manager, Sarina Staff, and readily agreed by sales manager, Georgina Hockey, from Marriott Hotels, who hosted the event.
The result was £550 - as well as a tasty break for the 191 people, who supported the lunchtime barbecue.
Sarina Staff commented: “Until we got involved with the Watford Observer’s charity golf day, I had not even heard of Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice. We are just very pleased to have been able to support the fantastic work the hospice does for the children and their families.”
