“We love most music, anything that is done well, whether it be jazz, rock, blues, reggae, pop, anything, we all get into it and I think you can hear the different styles in our stuff,” says Zac Whitaker, frontman of up-and-coming smooth rock outfit Kid At The Back. As band creator, songwriter, vocalist and lead guitarist, Zac has spent six years getting the image and the line-up just right. Other band members are Lee Voss (bass) and Matt Gornicki (drums).
Kid At The Back are definitely on the ball as their single Economy Song touches on aspects of the current economic climate, but Zac says he wrote it three years ago. He says: “It was when I was living in north London and was actually more to do with the ridiculous cost of living at the time and that is why there is the reference to the congestion charge in the first verse. It is a bit of a coincidence that it is such a good reflection of the current economic climate but when you think about it, the fact that people have been struggling for years before this happened and have been forced to live on the easily available credit to buy a ridiculously overpriced houses or pay over the top rent prices makes the song inevitably related to it.”
Fresh from playing Germany’s biggest music festival, Taubertal, in front of 20,000 people the band are now looking forward to a more intimate set at The Amber Rooms.
Catch up with them on Friday, June 12 at 9pm.
