AN ELVIS fanatic has wagered £100 that his hero's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, will outdo her father and get to number one with her first UK single in a bid to raise money for a local cancer centre.
Mr Sid Shaw, proprietor of Watford-based company Elvisly Yours, laid the bet with bookmakers William Hill on Tuesday at odds of ten to one.
If Lisa Marie's single, Lights Out, which is released on Monday, June 30, goes straight to the top of the charts it will raise £1,000 for the Lynda Jackson MacMillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.
If the song does not get the coveted number one position the £100 stake will go to the centre.
An Elvis impersonator, entertained visitors to Mr Shaw's shop in Baker Street, London, on Tuesday, to celebrate the bet.
Mr Shaw, who lives in Radlett, has raised hundreds of pounds for the centre after his partner was diagnosed with cancer and received invaluable support there.
He said: "We have been raising money for the centre each year ever since we came into contact with it.
"I thought it would be a good idea to place a bet to get Lisa Marie to number one in aid of charity. It's a pretty catchy song and if every Elvis fan buys a copy it should go to number one.
"I don't think anyone has ever placed a bet like this before."
The move is a surprise about turn for Mr Shaw who has fought legal battles with Elvis's estate over his right to sell Elvis memorabilia. Lisa Marie heads the company that has taken him to court.
He said: "Elvis was one of the most generous people in history so I am basically following his example and killing them with kindness.
"They sue me, I promote them."
