Long awaited safety plans showing improvements to the main road through Kings Langley will be displayed to the public this month.

As a result of extensive investigations into traffic flows, speeds, accident records, and road users, Hertfordshire Highways is seeking the public’s views on six safety schemes.

The proposals have been welcomed by the C76 group which has been campaigning for a year for safety improvements in and around Kings Langley, with its main focus on the Lower Road railway bridge.

Top of their concerns was to provide a safe pedestrian route through the railway bridge near the junction of Railway Terrace and Hyde Lane.

Chairman of the group, Helen Lehrle, of Hyde Lane in Nash Mills, said: “There was another accident on Primrose Hill on Sunday – that‘s five accidents in a year along this small stretch of road. This has to stop and that’s why we are campaigning.

“We all have worked really hard to get the views across to Highways, now is the chance to see how it has been interpreted by them.

“We understand it will not be what everyone wants but the Highways have tried to make all the suggestions work, apart from the bricking up of the bridge and making it a no through road.

In August, the county council announced that improvements will go ahead over the next two years, funded by £253,000 of Section 106 money from the building of the Ovaltine development in Kings Langley.

The six schemes include new road markings, a footway west side of Railway Terrace, a traffic island with dropped kerbs and tactile paving to aid pedestrians to cross the road.

Double yellow line parking restrictions are also proposed as well as parking areas and a pelican crossing to improve access to Kings Langley station.

County Councillor Stuart Pile, executive member for highways, transport and rural affairs, said: ‘We want to improve the existing area for both drivers and pedestrians.

"I urge residents to come along to the public exhibition - we are interested in residents' views and opinions, and the exhibitions will also give a clearer understanding of what we are hoping to achieve."

The large scale plans will be displayed at Kings House Business Centre, which is at the junction of Station Road, and Home Park Mill Link Road in Kings Langley.

They can be viewed on Thursday November 20 from 6 pm until 8 pm, Friday November 21 from 8 am until 8 pm and Saturday November 22 from 9 am until 12 noon.
