A 12-year-old Aldenham girl has been awarded for being the youngest student in the country to achieve an A* in her maths GCSE.

Chelsea fan Alexandra Evans, who attends Edge Grove School in Aldenham Village, was presented with a special certificate by the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, the shadow secretary of state for education, in recognition of her achievement.

Mr Gove praised her for her determination and hard work.

Alexandra said: “When I first told my friends that I was sitting my GCSE, they didn’t believe me. Then when they found out I had passed they were so surprised.

“I met my favourite footballer John Terry and he congratulated me on my achievement and said you may have got an A* but to me you are a star. I was so happy.”

Alexandra, who enjoys playing football, art and reading Harry Potter, was taught by her father, Dr Richard Evans, alongside 16-year-old students at Saturday School in Copland in Wembley.

Mr Evans said: “I’m absolutely delighted at Alexandra’s achievement. I’m very proud of her and all the work she has put in.”

Alexandra said she enjoyed being taught by her dad – even if it meant calling him Sir!

She continues to study Mathematics with her school friends even if she finds some of the work a little easy.
