Reader John Pipe emailed Nostalgia regarding dance nights in Watford.
Mr Pipe said: “I was a regular dancer, both on Thursday and Saturday nights at the Watford town hall, prior to doing my National Service in 1954.
“I can remember the following big named bands: Ted Heath, Ken McIntosh, Sid Phillips, Johnny Dankworth, Eric Winston, Gerry Mulligan, and Lou Praeger performing there with their singers.
“The New Year’s Eve dance always had a big named band and the tickets were like gold dust to get hold of, we used to queue up outside room 17 in the town hall to buy the tickets when they went on sale.
“The very thought of those names bring back very many happy memories. I hope this information will be of use to you.”
What memories have readers got of these town hall dances?
