The subject of Scammells Motors mentioned recently in Nostalgia resonated with Jean Parish, of Tolpits Lane, Watford.
She said: “Well, it’s only 20 years ago that Scammell Motors was closed so there are still many still living in Watford.
“The late Jack Morgan used to run the Scammell Monday Pensioners Club and we still meet two or three times a month at the Holy Rood Social Club in Tolpits Lane, opposite the old Scammell site.
“It is now run by a small committee and we meet two or three times a month on a Monday from 2pm to 3.30pm and usually have five day trips during the summer, which I organise.
“Our next meetings are on October 20 and 27 and we would be glad to welcome any ex-Scammell employees with their wives/husbands who don’t realise we still meet.”
And on the subject of Chater School “I was there in the 1930s as was one of my classmates who lives on the Holywell Estate and also my sister, one of my daughters (early 60s) and some of my nephews. I can still remember the names of the head-mistress and all the teachers.”
What memories are there of readers who worked at Scammell Motors?
