Trick or Treaters may not be the only thing knocking at your door this Halloween, as TV Licensing officers will be in Watford on the spookiest night of the year.
TV Licensing’s database of almost 30 million addresses can pinpoint exactly which properties are unlicensed. TV Licensing enquiry officers visit suspected evaders in the evenings as well as during the daytime and will continue to do so as winter sets in.
So far in 2008, more than 390 people in Watford have been caught watching TV without a licence, all of them risking prosecution and a fine.
Joanna Pearce, from TV Licensing, said: “TV Licensing has a duty to enforce the licence fee on behalf of the honest majority who pay, which is why we’ll be out visiting licence cheats in Watford this Halloween.
“We would always prefer people to buy a licence than be haunted by the spectre of a £1,000 fine. To help, we offer a range of ways to pay, which are explained at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/info.”
