FOOTBALL fans across the world will be turning out in Watford and England shirts, after an overwhelming response to an appeal for old or unused kits.
The Watford Observer teamed up with KitAid to call on all supporters to hand over their unwanted shirts, which can be sent to countries in Africa, Asia, South America, North America and Eastern Europe.
The appeal was launched on Friday, July 11 and since then, more than 15 bags and sacks have been filled with strips, sent in by readers and advertisers.
And representatives from KitAid came to collect the kits on Wednesday.
KitAid was started in 1998 when Derrick Williams MBE, a Three Valleys Water employee, visited Tanzania with WaterAid.
Now in its tenth year, KitAid continues to grow. In 2007, 17,500 shirts, kits and pairs of boots were sent out to 25 different countries in five continents and in 2008, 15,000 items have already been delivered.
Laura Jones, from the Watford Observer property team, thanked all advertisers who supported the charity, and also thanked advertisers and readers who sent in their old sport shirts.
One lucky reader who donated a shirt will also win a signed Watford Football Club shirt.
