An "adventurous" 11-year-old boy reported missing late last night was found safe and well following an extensive operation by emergency services in Chorleywood this morning.
The boy was reported missing at 12.07am, and a police helicopter and units on the ground were deployed to help find him.
The boy was found safe and well in the village at 11am.
The fire service and Neighbourhood Watch also assisted.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews and used thermal imaging cameras to help locate the boy.
George Holland, Inspector for Three Rivers Neighbourhood Team, said: “The boy is quite adventurous and decided to go off on an adventure by himself.
“He has been given strong words of advice to ensure he never does anything like this again and been made aware of the importance of letting his parents know where he is at all times.
“We would send the same message to all children – never leave house without the permission of your parents of guardians.”
