A team of daredevils from a Watford business will throw themselves out of a plane, 13,000ft in the air, and complete a parachute jump in the name of charity.
Ten staff members from Storm Technologies Ltd, in Greenfield Crescent, in Watford Business Park, will freefall at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour to raise money for Action Duchenne, which provides support for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
DMD is a genetic muscle wasting disease that predominantly affects males, leaving the majority of sufferers in a wheelchair by the age of ten.
Ben Green, corporate account manager at Storm, said there was no particular reason why he and his fellow parachutists have chosen to support Action Duchenne; they just wanted to raise money for a less high profile charity.
“The funny thing is there is no real reason behind it,” he said. “We just wanted to do it.
“Rather than being reactive, our decision stemmed from a will to be proactive. None of us have ever done anything like this but we’re determined to see it through and meet, if not exceed, our target of £3,000.”
From the outset, Ben and his colleagues have been admirably committed to their cause, ensuring every penny will go to the charity by funding the jump themselves and acquiring sponsorship.
Less than 24 hours after they agreed to the challenge, the team had designed promotional t-shirts and raised more than one third of their target.
The jump will take place at 9am in Swindon on Sunday, October 26.
