SOMETHING is very wrong in the small town of Silent Hill.
Once the romantic rendezvous of our hero and his wife, he is stunned to receive a letter from her imploring him to visit the town.
But she died three years ago.
This is a classic horror story in pixel form.
A first-person adventure, you uncover the mystery of the letter while fending off the very worst elements of the underworld.
Graphically, this game is superb.
It's dark, eerie and full of tension.
The downside is that Silent Hill 2 suffers the same fate as every Japanese-turned European-game terrible and sterile voice-overs.
The controls are a little tricky, but bear with it and those problems can be overcome.
Silent Hill 2 is by no means the finished article and you will tear your hair out at times in frustration.
But it's dank, it's dangerous and it's not far away from being great.
