Motorists could be stopped from using a busy road into Buckinghamshire after a consultation launched over closing it.

All motor vehicles would be prohibited from using Roughwood Lane other, between Chorleywood and Chalfont St Giles, other than for access to homes, under the Buckinghamshire Council proposal.

Chorleywood Residents Associations is encouraging those in Hertfordshire to also have their say in the consultation, which is set to run until the end of December 13.

According to Bucks Highways: “Roughwood Lane is a single-track lane and is not able to cope with the volumes of traffic currently using the road.

“It is proposed to continue to allow non-motorised traffic and access to the properties on the road only.”

"Inappropriate high traffic volumes” apparently use the road, meaning the closure would avoid crashes, make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to use the road, and preserve “the amenities of the area through which the road runs”.

However, it its own statement, the residents association said: “It’s certainly a narrow lane, but so are Chorleywood’s lanes.

“This may drive extra traffic onto Long Lane in particular, for traffic heading to Gerrards Cross, the Chalfonts or the M40 northwards.”

Hertfordshire Residents can submit responses via email to highways.consultations@buckinghamshire.gov.uk or write a letter to Buckinghamshire Council, Council Access Plus, Walton Street Offices, Walton Street, Aylesbury, HP20 1UA.
