Passengers travelling between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes are facing delays this morning as services suffer a hangover effect from Sunday's day of disruption.

National Rail has warned that London Northwestern Railway and Avanti West Coast services could still be cancelled or delayed this morning, with "residual disruption" expected to last until at least 8am.

It comes after a speed restriction was in place for much of Sunday, following an issue with defective track at Tring.

This forced trains to run at reduced speeds between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central, with services being delayed by 20 minutes and in some cases cancelled.

While services are beginning to run as normal this morning, passengers should be aware that they may still experience delays, despite the track issue being resolved.

More information and plans for alternative journeys can be found on the National Rail website.

It is the latest in a spate of issues facing the station in recent times, with signal failings and the impact of Storm Bert making delays a familiar experience for commuters over the last few weeks.

On Thursday (November 28), lines were closed after a person was sadly hit by a train.
