A school in South Oxhey has raised £700 for a breast cancer appeal.

Pupils, teachers, and parents at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School raised the money for the West Herts Hospitals Charity’s appeal, which is being backed by the Watford Observer and its sister title, the Herts Advertiser.

The appeal is of personal significance to the school, as office manager and violin teacher, Dawn Tannian, is currently undergoing treatment.

Linda Payne, headteacher at the school, said: "We are truly grateful for the generous donations and unwavering support from our wonderful school community.

"Their contributions will make a significant difference for a cause that has sadly affected so many lives."

The funds were presented during a school assembly, where representatives from the charity accepted the cheque.

Emily Theobald, senior fundraising officer, said: "We’re so grateful to everyone at St Joseph’s for their generosity.

"The school’s effort is an inspiring example of community spirit and demonstrates how local support can make a real difference."

The breast cancer appeal aims to raise £200,000 for two Savi Scout surgical guidance systems, which will be based at St Albans City Hospital where patients from across West Herts, including Watford, are treated.

These systems use radar technology to detect and precisely pinpoint the location of cancer within a distance of one millimetre, allowing for the targeted removal of cancerous tissue.

The appeal has raised £50,000 so far.
