The Salvation Army is appealing for donations in Watford after requests for help from struggling families have doubled this year.
In 2023, the Salvation Army provided support for 194 children who would otherwise have gone without a gift on Christmas Day.
So far this year they have been asked to support 380 children.
Captain Mark Scoulding, who leads the Salvation Army in Watford, said that donations are coming in slowly, putting hundreds of children at risk of having no presents on Christmas Day.
He said: "The community’s generosity last year made a world of difference but this year we know that many people who donated a gift last year will instead need our help this Christmas.
"The need is unprecedented but, so far, donations are falling short.
"We’re urgently appealing to everyone - individuals, businesses and organisations - to help us meet this incredible demand.
"Christmas is a time for joy and giving, and no child should feel forgotten."
The community can help by donating online or giving new, unwrapped toys before December 14.
Donation trollies are open 24/7 in Asda Watford.
