Completely reworking a long-vacant care home to bring it back into use has been given the go-ahead.
Applicant Acacia Care said that Chalfont Court Care Home, in Uxbridge Road, Rickmansworth is “no longer fit for purpose” as a 42-bedroom facility because it fails to meet modern standards.
The building has been stripped out and surrounded by hoarding since 2019 and is in “desperate need of repair both internally and externally”, it added.
Acacia Care therefore submitted a planning application, to demolish parts of the care home, build new extensions and a loft conversion, refurbish it, and redesign the interior, to Three Rivers District Council in March 2023.

Yesterday (November 22), the official decision approving the plan was confirmed after copies of completed deeds securing its future use, as a care home for those over 55, were added to the planning portal this week.
Once refurbished, it will only have 26-bedroom suites instead of 42 allowing it to offer more bedroom space as well as better internal facilities, including communal areas, for future residents.
It will also provide 16 car parking spaces and a communal public garden, as well as private patios.
