A new parking scheme is set to be introduced in Rickmansworth, with the aim of tackling "inconsiderate" parking.

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has confirmed that drivers will now need a permit to park on roads in the Moneyhill area of the town.

Coming into force on December 9, the scheme will see a 'controlled parking zone' operate from Monday to Saturday between 8.30am and 6.30pm.

Parking will be available in parking bays, with short stay bays (with the first hour free) will be available for shoppers and other visitors.

The council says that the scheme will only be implemented in roads where a majority of residents were in favour of the proposals, after a consultation in which every address in the area was surveyed.

As a result, two roads have been excluded from the scheme.

It comes after the council received requests to improve the parking situation, with many residents complaining about "inconsiderate", particularly from drivers seeking free parking while commuting out of town.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, the council's lead member for general public services, said: “This new scheme will help people at local addresses to find parking spaces more easily during the day and increase the turnover of parking for shoppers and visitors to the various shops and services in the area.

“By prioritising parking for people who need it most, preventing all-day parking in residential roads by non-residents, we are also improving the experience and safety for people travelling locally, whether walking, cycling or driving, providing more space to manoeuvre and better visibility at road junctions.”
