The pond has been part of life in Watford town centre for more than 180 years and its appearance has changed several times during its history.
Statues and rockeries have been added to it, a bridge has built over it, and it is approaching 50 years since a mum was pointing out another feature to her children which passing ducks were getting used to sharing the water with.
A Watford Observer photographer visited The Parade on January 14, 1975 to capture these images of the fountains operating in the pond.

Although they were not reaching any significant height, some shoppers did stop to look at the water features at the Town Hall end of the high street.
The fountains appear to have been part of a wider refurbishment of the pond during the middle of the decade, as workmen were pictured working on the stone border when our photographer visited the scene two weeks previously.
