Cable installation works on the A412 in Rickmansworth are being delayed, with UK Power Networks citing "unforeseen engineering difficulties".
Work began on September 2 and is due to end on December 2, but due to the setbacks new measures are being taken to get the programme back on track.
So far the work has been carried out under 24/7 temporary traffic signals, with these remaining in place due to the need to dig up the road.
In a bid to balance traffic flows, the temporary signals are now being manually controlled between 6am and 8pm.

UK Power Network teams are also now working extended hours in an attempt to reduce the overall length of the works.
This will see crew working on the road from 7am to 8pm on weekdays, from 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and and from 9am to 8pm on Sunday.
A message on the Hertfordshire County Council website reads: "Several unforeseen engineering difficulties have resulted in delays to programme delivery. We're working closely with the works contractor to address concerns and reduce disruption."
