Developers ready to knock down a vandalism-blighted former care home and build 27 or more homes are being sought.
Hertfordshire County Council-owned 54-bed residential home, Margaret House, is set for demolition after the council's plans to replace it with a mix of houses and flats were approved earlier this year.
It is now looking to sell it to a developer who can carry out the consented work, or its own scheme, with further payments if it builds extra homes. It has set a December 16 deadline for any offers.
The Parsonage Close, Abbots Langley, site is currently vacant after closing in 2022 and requires 360-degree CCTV after multiple break-ins and vandalism.
It had been found to fall short of the modern care standard requirements before closure.
- Margaret House, Abbots Langley to be knocked down for homes
- Margaret House demolition for homes recommended for approval
- Abbots Langley care home Margaret House could be sold
Agreed plans include four two-bed houses and six three-bed houses, as well as 11 one-bed flats and six two-bed flats.
Prior to approval, residents and Abbots Langley Parish Council had raised concerns over access to the site.
The main issues highlighted were the impact on traffic and parking, as well as construction vehicles being a safety concern at the start and end of the school day because the building is adjacent to Abbots Langley School.
It was initially suggested that the council could sell the land to its own development company for up to £3 million. The council has not confirmed whether Herts Living is expected to be one of the applicants.
