New CCTV is set to be installed across the Three Rivers District, with the council agreeing to purchase nine cameras to catch out criminals.

While subject to rubberstamping at a full council meeting next month, the new cameras are almost certain to come in, with widespread support for their purchase.

A process will now begin for sites to be formally identified and approved - but several locations have already been requested, according to a social media post by the council leader.

These include the Woodhall Lane garages in South Oxhey, which have been plagued by fly-tipping, as well as Langley Road in Abbots Langley, following reports of antisocial behaviour in the area surrounding the Rose Garden.

There have also been requests for cameras to tackle problems with antisocial behaviour in Manor House Park, Abbots Langley, nitrous oxide canisters in Green Lane, South Oxhey, and shoplifting in the Carpenders Park area.

Council leader Stephen Giles-Medhurst said: "Whilst Three Rivers remains a low crime area its clear that CCTV cameras are needed and I am pleased officers brought the funding bid forward and that councillors agreed the nine new ones"

Steve Cox, Labour councillor for South Oxhey was delighted with the announcement, saying: "This is a significant achievement by the Labour councillors in South Oxhey."

"It is a substantial investment in South Oxhey that will help to tackle crime and anti social behaviour and we welcome it wholeheartedly."
