Kings Langley residents could face more delays and disruption as a major road remains closed, despite works having been due to end this week.

Toms Lane has been closed at the junction of Primrose Hill since September 30, with an initial permit in place until November 8.

However, the road remains closed this week with disruption continuing into a sixth week.

Traffic website One Network appears to shed some light on the situation, stating that roadworks will be in place until November 29, with delays "likely".

The works are being carried out by gas company Cadent, who are carrying out works on the pipes in Primrose Hill.

A letter seen by the Watford Observer back in September read: "As part of our ongoing commitment to upgrading the gas network in your area, we're replacing the pipes to future proof your gas network and invest in a greener future.

"This is government-mandated work directed by the Health and Safety Executive, so you and your neighbours can continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply well into the future.

"To ensure our teams can work safely while they carry out this essential work to upgrade the gas pipes on Primrose Hill, we will need to implement a temporary road closure on Toms Lane at the junction of Primrose Hill."

Residents have taken to social media to express their frustration at the ongoing delays, with one writing:  "I live opposite the garage and the works are outside my front door, it's a complete nightmare."

Another added: "I was told by the workers yesterday  that they anticipate it being in its current state until Christmas as they have to work their way up to the end of railway terrace."

The same user claimed to have been told that the workers may have to come back after Christmas and continue their works into the New Year, as the operation "is not going to plan".

Cadent's head of customer experience Eleanor Lewis, said: “This project, which includes working beneath the railway bridge, has been a challenging one that has included some technical difficulties along the way. While the project has been slightly extended, all work in Toms Lane will be completed by Saturday 30 November.

“We are very conscious of the disruption roadworks cause and are in regular contact with the Highways Authority to keep them updated on our work. "
