A man has been ordered to pay nearly £1,400 after he was caught drink driving.

Jayesh Dixit, of Dumbletons in Maple Cross, was hit with a £923 fine after admitting being over the legal limit while behind the wheel of a Volvo on Uxbridge Road.

According to court documents, he had 60 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – above the 35 micrograms limit – on March 24 this year.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 8, before being given the £923 fine and ordered to pay £85 costs and £369 surcharge.

Dixit was also banned from driving for 20 months – which can be reduced by 20 weeks subject to an obligatory driving disqualification course.

His guilty plea was taken into account during sentencing, according to court papers.

The 37-year-old was disqualified from driving for 23 months starting from October 1 and fined £2,000. He was also ordered to pay £650 in costs, and an £800 surcharge.
