It has grown to become one of the busiest junctions in the Watford area but 50 years ago motorists were getting used to a new road feature on the edge of the town.
A Watford Observer photographer took these photos of a new roundabout at Hunton Bridge on this date in 1974.
The roundabout was built at the same time as the construction of the A405 Rickmansworth bypass, which later became part of the M25.

According to the Sabre Roads website, the junction was originally constructed in the 1920s and started life as a link between the A5088 Watford bypass and the A41.
The first change came in 1935 when road numbers were revised and the Watford bypass became the A500.
A further renumbering around 1950 diverted the A41 onto the bypass and extended the A411 through Watford to the junction.
These pictures from our archive will also bring back memories for many readers of some of the vehicles that were being driven 50 years ago.
