A new 'Shop and Eat Local' campaign has been launched to boost businesses in Watford.
The campaign, led by Watford Town Centre BID and Watford Borough Council, aims to support the town's shops and hospitality outlets in the run-up to the festive season.
Residents are encouraged to choose local over online and out-of-town shopping in a bid to help them recover from economic challenges faced over recent years.
The campaign will also focus on promoting the Watford Gift Card, which allows recipients to choose from more than 140 participating businesses in Watford town centre.
This gift card not only offers recipients the freedom to choose but also supports local businesses, helping to sustain jobs and livelihoods within the community.
Watford Town Centre BID’s manager, Kara Mesiano, said: "Our local businesses are the backbone of Watford’s economy.
"Through the Shop and Eat Local campaign, we not only want everyone to visit our town’s eateries and shops this Christmas but also want locals to consider the Watford Gift Card as a present to your nearest and dearest.
"It offers the recipient an abundance of choice whilst guaranteeing that Watford town centre businesses are supported from the Christmas period through to 2025."
In promotion of the campaign, the council has highlighted Watford's achievements in being recognised through various national awards, with a strong high street and flourishing shopping parades.
The campaign will keep residents updated on local offerings and events, including Winterfest on November 23 and the Christmas Sunday Market on December 8.
These events aim to encourage footfall in Watford and foster a festive atmosphere.
Christmas decorations will also adorn key areas, backed by funding from the Watford BID, nearby businesses, and the council.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: "Local businesses are integral to our community’s identity and character.
"This festive season let’s show our support by choosing to shop in Watford.
"It’s vital to remember the impact our shopping choices have on our community.
"Supporting local businesses not only boosts our economy but also helps maintain the diverse range of shops and businesses that make Watford special."
