One of Watford’s major roads is set to close each evening for the next 11 nights.

Hertfordshire County Council highways is due to begin resurfacing work in St Albans Road, between Windsor Road and Langley Road, at 8pm this evening (October 27).

The stretch of road will reopen at 5am on Monday before closing from 8pm to 5am each night until November 7. A noise curfew of midnight will be in place.

“We're resurfacing the road for the comfort and safety of all road users and to reduce future maintenance,” a council spokesperson said.

“Over time, the road's surface has become worn due to the high volume of traffic.”

Work will include renewing the old road surface, cleaning road drains, reinstating road markings and studs, replacing drains, as well as reinstating traffic and speed camera loops.

Parked cars will need to be moved from the road for the work. Driveways will be inaccessible while they are underway, and on-street parking will be unavailable.

Emergency vehicles will be given access if necessary.

The diversion route will send vehicles around the A41, Stevenson Way, Exchange Road, Beechen Grove, and the town hall roundabout (and vice versa).
