Motorists say broken traffic lights have caused “chaos” at a bottleneck junction after going “haywire” with too many red signals.
Queues back to the Toby Carvery three-quarters-of-a-mile up the road have been reported from the Sandy Lane junction with the A41 near Bushey recently.
Cars struggle to turn right from the A road (heading towards London) because of an issue with the lights, which has created a bottleneck causing “mayhem” and “chaos” according to Bushey residents.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council confirmed that it is aware of the issue.
They explained: “These lights are computer controlled, and unfortunately one of the induction loops under the road has become damaged meaning that the control system can’t detect the number of cars waiting to turn right.

“This is causing the lights controlling the southbound traffic to be on red more often than they should be, which is causing delays.
“We appreciate that this is frustrating for road users and we’d like to thank people for bearing with us while we fix the problem.”
Work to replace the damaged induction loop has apparently been scheduled for Thursday, October 31.
