Abbey Line train tickets will now be accepted on some bus routes when trains are not running.
The six-and-a-half mile line connects Watford Junction with St Albans Abbey and is a popular route between the town and the city.
Following a several year long campaign by the Friends of The Abbey Flyer (Abfly), Hertfordshire County Council has reached an agreement with train operating companies that will see tickets accepted on specific bus routes when the line is not running.

This means that Abbey Line tickets will be accepted on the 721, 724 and 725 bus routes.
The Abbey Line has been hit with a string of cancellations and delays in recent times, with Abfly member Kevin Ambrose telling the Watford Observer earlier this year that commuters were left feeling "a mixture of anger and resignation" over the issues.
In September alone, the line was subject to 90 unplanned cancellations.
The new agreement will allow passengers to catch regular buses in lieu of a cancelled train service.
