Controversial plans to build a new school will come down to a crunch meeting tomorrow after deferral.

Hertfordshire County Council postponed its vote on plans to move Abbots Langley’s Breakspeare School to a new site next to Little Green Junior School, in Croxley Green, when it met in July after residents raised fears over the narrow roads that would be used to get there.

Development control committee members asked the applicant to provide more information on the alternative access options it had considered and approach relevant landowners to explore these options fully.

With the response now in, it looks like the council will have to make a decision at a meeting from 10am tomorrow morning (October 24). Having looked over the documents, council officers are again recommending that permission should be granted.

The applicant has confirmed that it considered the following alternative options: Little Green Lane, Lincoln Drive, Manor Way (West), Killingdown Farm, Little Green Junior School, and Grove Crescent.

Each of these was discounted, for various reasons including being unable to accommodate two-way traffic, needing upgrades, impact on the neighbouring school, reliance on neighbouring developers changing their plans, and using roads the council does not manage.

The relevant landowners apparently all gave reasons why they could not give up or sell land and roads to provide for the school access. Details of each response were provided.
