A Watford General Hospital bus is among three routes more than 200 users want to be extended to include Sundays.
Focussing on three particular bus routes calling at Hertfordshire’s villages – the 361, 601 and 635 – the e-petition says the absence of a Sunday service is “inherently unfair” on those who cannot drive.
It calls for the county council to extend the services, which call at villages that include Radlett, Bricket Wood, How Wood, Chiswell Green, Colney Street, Frogmore and Park Street.
According to the e-petition – which is running on www.hertfordshire.gov.uk – those living in the villages who are too young to drive or are unable to drive are forced to miss out on the benefits of travelling into Watford and St Albans, which it says is “inherently unfair”.
The petition also references efforts to try and get motorists out of their cars. It suggests that an expansion in the bus services to include Sundays could increase revenue for businesses too.
“Our local council constantly talk about not using cars and introduce street closures, 20mph zones and increased parking charges, to make things more difficult for drivers, without any improvement to our transport system as we can see from our local villages,” it states.
“With a service into St Albans city center [sic] on Sundays from the outlying villages, would come a steady and welcome revenue increase for our retail outlets, coffee shops and restaurants.
“Also residents would be able to attend clinics currently running at Watford General Hospital and also St Albans Hospital.”

The e-petition – which is running on the Hertfordshire County Council website – is focussed on three existing services, which do not run on Sundays.
The 361 route runs from Borehamwood to St Albans – calling at Radlett, Bricket Wood, How Wood and Chiswell Green.
The 601 route also runs from Borehamwood to St Albans city centre, but calls at Radlett, Colney Stret, Frogmore Park , Park Street and St Julian’s.
And the 635 runs from Watford General Hospital to Hitchin – calling at Bricket Wood, How Wood, Park Street and Hatfield.
The petition – which will run until December 2 – has already been ‘signed’ by 293 people. It can be found at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
