Herts Police have confirmed they are looking for a dog after it reportedly killed a second cat this weekend.

The force had been called with reports that the pet had killed a cat in Ross Crescent, in the Leaveden Green estate, at around 3.15pm on Saturday, October 19.

Officers arrived on the scene but were unable to locate it.

A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Our investigation is continuing and extensive enquiries are being carried out to locate the dog and its owner.

“We appreciate the distress these incidents have caused and we encourage anyone with information to get in touch.”

It comes after the same dog, described as a big Akita, bolted through an open back door into a home in Harris Road, near Leavesden, and mauled a cat to death in the living room on September 8.

Towards the end of September, police shared that the address linked to the dog had been visited by police and it had been rehomed “far away”.

“It has been confirmed that the dog will not be back in the area,” the message added, following a poster campaign by members of the public warning the community to be careful.

Despite this it has apparently since been seen running around the Leavesden Green estate.
