Although one of Watford’s most popular pubs is now part of history after it closed earlier this year, memories of it will live on for years to come.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this view of The Horns.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “The Horns pub in Hempstead Road is recorded in the 1841 census along with other new pubs built in St Albans Road.

“Those pubs will have been opened to serve the growing population in the area caused by the arrival of the railway to Watford in 1837.
“However, The Horns dates back to the mid-1740s and was a call for hay carters.
“The old pub was rebuilt in 1963 and this photo dates a little after this time.”
