Plans for hundreds of new homes near a beauty spot are set to move to the next stage after a consultation closed.

Development firm Richborough proposes 600 homes, as well as a new primary school and medical centre on land north of Little Green Lane, Croxley Green, near Whippendell Wood and the West Herts Golf Club.

Preliminary plans were unveiled in August, before a consultation was launched seeking residents views in September.

The consultation came to an end yesterday (October 13) with Richborough saying the views of the public will be considered as they prepare to formally submit an application to the borough council.

Setting out its stall, the developer said: "Taking cues from some of older parts of Croxley Green and the surrounding local villages, our vision aims to create a lasting legacy and place to be proud of, comprising a variety of well-designed homes suitable for people at every stage of life."

The firm says it will now compile all responses ahead of a "final masterplan", which will be submitted in the form of an outline planning application.

Residents appear split on the plans, with one taking to social media to write: "Do you really think that Richborough care about what the people of Croxley Green want?

"They made it abundantly clear during the webinar that that event and any public consultation are simply a legally required tick-box exercise."

However, another resident wrote: "This site will be developed and people will have new homes to buy or rent in Croxley Green.

"The proposal seems quite sympathetic and appears to fit with the character of Croxley Green."

As the proposed scheme would border Whippendell Wood, which is thought to be over 400 years old, a 30-metre barrier would be implemented next to the woodland with controls on artificial light around the edge of the development.
