Police believe two cars were set on fire in a “targeted” arson attack after an explosion yesterday.

Herts Police and a Watford fire engine rushed to Canterbury Road, Watford, after residents heard an explosion and two cars caught fire at around 1.11am (October 9).

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after finding the vehicles “well alight”, with the flames affecting other nearby cars.

It came just a day after seven cars were set on fire in three streets in Stevenage, but the Herts Police spokesperson added that “there is nothing to suggest it is linked to the incident in Stevenage”.

Herts Fire and Rescue assistant chief fire officer Mark Barber said: “Deliberate fires can cause a significant amount of damage, as well as being distressing for the people affected.

"Please report any activity that may help the police with their investigations, and help us to protect our communities and keep people safe.”
