The developer behind a 1,300-home scheme set to include Watford’s tallest building has rebranded it with a new name.

When the first residents move into the huge new community off St Albans Road from early next year, it will be called ‘The Exchange’ rather than ‘The Eight Gardens’ as was originally proposed.

The switch was quietly made on developer Berkeley Group’s website in September, but a spokesperson has now shared a statement explaining the reason behind it.

Berkeley St Edward London managing director Tom Pocock said: “The Exchange, Watford has recently been rebranded and relaunched.

“Watford boasts a rich history, from papermills and print factories to the more recent growth of its creative industries and is rapidly emerging as a sought-after destination for new businesses, homeowners and investors alike.

Promotional material for the development still highlights the eight gardens, including roof gardens, children’s play areas, an ecology garden, and squares, spread around the development that had inspired the previous name.

The scheme initially featured 1,214-homes before a further 53 were added in 2021 and 75 more were included in the most recent version approved earlier this year.
