Affinity Water has confirmed why works in a key road between villages has been extended after a pipe burst.

The Langley Road/Chipperfield Road route between Kings Langley and Chipperfield was shut on short notice after the burst was reported at 3.27pm on Wednesday, October 2.

Motorists have since had to take a roughly four-mile trip needed to go around the closure, which was initially set to be lifted on or before yesterday (October 7).

Despite the actual repair apparently being successfully completed at 1.10am on Thursday (October 3), Affinity Water shared, that evening, that it was awaiting the reinstatement of the road.

This was expected to happen “within three working days, barring any complications such as the need for concrete or other factors”.

As of this morning (October 8), the road remains shut and the closure permit has been extended to midnight on October 10, as shown on traffic website One Network.

An Affinity Water spokesperson has now confirmed that October 10 is the new expected reopening date. They added that the extension had been made “to allow all damage to existing surfaces to be rectified and made safe”.
