This site is now occupied by homes and a church but for around ten years it was home to an ill-fated swimming pool complex still fondly remembered by many people.
The Watford Observer has again teamed up with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at Watford Springs – from the air.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “I wonder how many people remember Watford Springs swimming pool which was located behind the Museum and reached via a roadway now named Wellspring Way?
“The pool began construction in the late 1980s and was a very different style with external flumes and, inside, a kind of tropical theme.

“Unfortunately, there were so many problems with the pool right from the start and because repair costs were spiralling, Watford Council decided it was better to close it in late 2000 and clear the site which has since been redeveloped with homes and a church.”
